Words from the curator

Boemo Diale’s art is a rich exploration of themes such as identity, trauma, and spirituality, often reflecting her navigation between rural and urban environments. Her vibrant color palette and surreal imagery draw from diverse influences, including San rock art and African symbols, creating layers of meaning that invite deep contemplation. Diale employs a variety of materials—spray paint, ink, and ceramics—to construct her visual narratives, which reflect her past and aspirations for the future. Additionally, her practice embraces dimensionality through collaborative projects, such as carved ‘Zambia’ frames, and thoughtfully curated installations that enhance the viewer's engagement. This innovative approach not only showcases her artistic versatility but also invites a dialogue about the complexities of her experiences and the multidimensionality of artistic expression.
